Storage Neasden Health and Safety Policy
Storage Neasden is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for employees, contractors, visitors, and customers using our storage and removal services. This policy explains our approach to managing health and safety risks and sets out the responsibilities of management, staff, and customers in maintaining a safe workplace.
We recognise our duty to prevent injury, ill health, and damage to property, and to continually improve our health and safety performance. This policy applies to all storage facilities, offices, vehicles, and any locations where we carry out removal or associated services.
Health and Safety Objectives
Our main health and safety objectives are to:
Identify and assess hazards related to storage, lifting, transport, and on-site activities. Implement suitable control measures to reduce risks as far as reasonably practicable. Provide safe systems of work for storage, handling, and removal operations. Ensure employees are trained, competent, and properly supervised. Maintain equipment, vehicles, and premises in a safe condition. Encourage a positive safety culture where concerns are raised promptly and acted upon.
Management Responsibilities
Senior management at Storage Neasden has overall responsibility for health and safety. Management will ensure that:
This policy is implemented, monitored, and reviewed at regular intervals. Risk assessments are carried out for key activities, including manual handling, vehicle use, loading and unloading, and use of storage units. Safe working procedures are developed and communicated to staff. Suitable resources are allocated for safety equipment, training, and maintenance. Accidents, incidents, and near misses are investigated and appropriate corrective actions are taken. Legal and regulatory requirements relevant to health and safety are identified and complied with.
Employee Responsibilities
Every employee of Storage Neasden has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. Employees must:
Follow all safety instructions, procedures, and training. Use equipment, tools, and vehicles only for their intended purpose and report any defects immediately. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment when required. Practice correct manual handling techniques and use lifting aids where available. Keep work areas, corridors, and access routes clear to reduce the risk of slips, trips, and falls. Report hazards, accidents, and near misses to their manager without delay. Cooperate fully with any investigations or additional control measures introduced.
Customer and Visitor Safety
Storage Neasden is committed to providing safe access to our facilities and safe interaction with our removal services for customers and visitors. Customers and visitors are asked to:
Follow safety signs, instructions, and guidance provided by staff. Drive carefully in and around the premises, adhering to site speed limits and parking arrangements. Take care when loading or unloading vehicles and ask for assistance or advice if unsure. Refrain from bringing prohibited or dangerous items into storage. Report any hazards or concerns to a member of staff.
Safe Storage and Handling of Goods
Safe storage and goods handling is central to our operations. Storage Neasden will ensure that:
Storage units are designed and maintained to support safe stacking and access. Clear guidance is provided on safe loading, stacking heights, and weight distribution. Staff are trained in safe handling of furniture, boxes, and equipment, including the use of trolleys and other aids. Customers are advised on safe packing and loading practices for both storage and removals.
Items that may present a hazard, such as flammable substances, perishable goods, or illegal materials, are not permitted in storage or removal consignments. Staff are trained to identify and manage such risks in line with company procedures.
Manual Handling and Lifting Operations
Manual handling and lifting are frequent aspects of our storage and removal activities. To reduce the risk of injury, Storage Neasden will:
Provide manual handling training to all relevant staff, covering lifting techniques, team lifting, and safe use of equipment. Make mechanical aids such as sack barrows, dollies, and lifting straps available where practicable. Plan removal operations and storage movements to minimise unnecessary lifting or awkward loads. Review tasks that pose higher risks and implement alternative methods or additional support.
Vehicles, Driving, and Transport Safety
Where removal vehicles or other company vehicles are used, Storage Neasden will:
Ensure vehicles are regularly inspected and maintained in a roadworthy condition. Provide suitable training and guidance to drivers, including loading and securing goods safely. Implement safe procedures for working at the rear of vehicles, loading bays, and around moving vehicles. Monitor driving behaviours where appropriate and address any unsafe practices.
Workplace Environment and Fire Safety
We will maintain our premises in a safe and orderly condition. This includes:
Keeping floors, walkways, and stairways free from obstructions. Maintaining adequate lighting, ventilation, and housekeeping standards in storage and office areas. Providing appropriate fire detection, alarm systems, and firefighting equipment. Clearly marking fire exits and escape routes and keeping them unobstructed at all times. Conducting regular fire drills and ensuring staff understand emergency procedures and assembly points.
Training, Information, and Supervision
Storage Neasden will ensure employees receive suitable induction and ongoing training relevant to their roles, including:
General health and safety awareness. Safe use of storage facilities and handling equipment. Manual handling and working with removal loads. Emergency and fire procedures. Incident reporting and first aid arrangements.
Supervisors will monitor working practices and provide coaching and guidance to promote safe behaviours.
Accident Reporting and Investigation
All accidents, incidents, and near misses, regardless of severity, must be reported. Storage Neasden will:
Record incidents accurately and in a timely manner. Investigate the causes to identify any underlying issues. Implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce the chance of recurrence. Review incident data periodically to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Health, Welfare, and Wellbeing
We recognise the importance of overall wellbeing in maintaining a safe working environment. Storage Neasden will:
Provide access to welfare facilities such as toilets, washing facilities, and drinking water. Monitor workloads and working hours to reduce fatigue wherever practicable. Consider health issues when planning tasks and allocate duties appropriately. Encourage employees to raise any health concerns that may affect their ability to work safely.
Review and Continuous Improvement
This Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed regularly and updated when necessary to reflect changes in legislation, operations, or best practice. Employee feedback, customer comments, and incident reports will be taken into account when revising our procedures.
By working together, Storage Neasden, its staff, customers, and partners can maintain a safe environment for storage, removals, and all associated activities.
